Will Will Rook cemetery is located off Camp Road Broadmeadows and is also known as Campbellfield cemetery. Over time and even now it is confused with burials at the near by Scots Church yard both being described as Campbellfield. Land was donated for a General Cemetery by Neil Campbell early 1850's. It also doesn't help that the records of Scots Church were lost and Will Will Rooks records are not complete either. There are surviving stones with information not in the burial register as far back as 1854. The saddest thing of all is that the cemetery has been almost totally destroyed by vandals so very few headstones of white marble survived only solid memorials of granite can be found. I have taken photos of even unknown stones which at least mark Where genuine burials took place who ever they may be. The cemetery contains many early Pioneers who cleared and farmed the surrounding areas and beyond and suffered the hardships of the Land and the burial register lists the lost of life some families suffered. Also buried here John Murray Peck one of the four partners of the Cobb & Co coach company. |
