St. Lukes Anglican Church

Gingin

In 1859, land around Gingin was surveyed & Swan Location 265 of 12 acres was allocated to the Church of England. A fund to build a church raised £160 from local residents & with a grant of £25 from the Colonial Government; St. Luke’s Church was erected just north of the bridge over the Gingin Brook in 1860.

The Revd George Bostock officially opened the church on the 23/02/1861. The Church was also used as a school for about 4 years with around 20 pupils. Renovations were done in 1877. This included several stained glass windows & a new shingle roof. The Church was consecrated by Bishop Parry in 1885.

The trial was hard, the blow severe,

To part with those we loved so dear,

The loss was great we’ll not complain,

But trust in god to meet again”

Selina

The beloved wife of

W. T. King

Who departed this life suddenly March 27.1900

Aged 57 years and 10 months.

She lived a life of kindness,

An example full of love,

To Christ the great redeemer,

Who has welcomed her above.

When my servants await me I come rejoicing and

Take them quickly to myself.

I must not let her stay,

I could not if she would.

She has earned the crown of glory

Which she now must wear above.

I delight to do Thy will, Oh my God,

Sadly each day I think of her still,

And remember her sweet loving face,

Yet in humble obedience I bow to the will

Of him who has crowned her with grace.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the

Death of His saints.”
